5 habits for healthy, glowing skin

Medically reviewed by Dr. Mameyan Donzo, MD, Internal Medicine · September 18, 2026

Medical facials fail in the parking lot. Not because DermaFuse or a VI Peel is weak, but because Northeast Florida sun, boat days, and office air-conditioning undo them before the next visit. These five habits are boring on purpose. They are also how Dr. Donzo’s chemist brain still thinks about skin: barrier first, then actives, then devices.

1. SPF on days you ‘will not be outside’

The drive down J. Turner Butler is outside. The walk from Cypress Green parking is outside. Pigment programs that skip windshield UV are hobbies. Wear it. Reapply if you actually go outside. Hats are aftercare, not a fashion footnote.

2. One retinoid, not three acids and a hope serum

Stacked exfoliants in this climate make barriers that look shiny and feel tight. If we put you on a retinoid, let it be the loudest active. Everything else should support, not compete.

3. Wash the gym off before the car ride

Sweat plus fabric plus a hot car is a facial you did not book. Back acne and jawline congestion often start there, not in a pore cartoon.

4. Sleep and salt are visible

Under-eyes and ‘puff’ after a river-front dinner are not always a filler indication. If you want injectables to look expensive, do not ask them to outrun last night.

5. Stop buying a new cleanser every Town Center trip

A skincare consult exists to edit the cabinet. Bring the bag. Keep what works. Retire the poem on the box. Devices and peels hold when the Tuesday routine is two steps you will still do in August.
